Plankton farming
But how to breed?
A small 1x1 is created here to successfully breed plankton.
We are overwhelmed with many questions about breeding.
For this reason, we have decided to create a small reference book to make breeding plankton easier.
How do you start?
What should you have on hand?
Let's start with the most important one.
To start with, we need phytoplankton. This can be used to feed the corals in the aquarium, or the zooplankton which is used to feed mandarin pipefish, tweezers etc. fish.
We know aquarists who successfully breed phytoplankton in 1L preserving jars. but these are “old hands”.
For starters, I recommend starting a little bigger. However, the costs are kept very low. Below is a small shopping list for a 5L “system” to test out.
(we will shortly put together a small set at cost price)
Since most aquarists already have everything lying around, the start should be quick.
1. A 5L canister of distilled water from the hardware store. 2-5.-SFr
2. Also available at hardware stores 1 LED spotlight. Important!! Cool white!! approx. 6000+ Kelvin. 10 watts are enough for 6-15 SFr
3. An air pump. If there is nothing lying around at home, hardware store garden department, or aquarium shop 15.-SFr
4. a time switch 5.-SFr
5. When everything is there, get plankton and plankton fertilizer.
